It all begun in the year 2000 when long-time fellows Teemu Heurlin, Pekka Huttunen and Matti Virtanen decided to form a band. At the time boys had practically no skills at all, but they trained hard with young studs' passion and things started to evolve.
BEGINNING - YEARS OF THE H.E.D SHOT
Couple of years went with Matti on guitar, Pekka on drums and Teemu on bass. Guys were constantly searching for a vocalist and second guitarist but nothing permanent occured. Markets were poor, so to say. Little time passed and boys kept practising on their own. Silence was luckily broken when they came up with an idea to ask their friend, Mika Lahtinen, to join the band as a vocalist. Mika joined with pleasure and sails were up!
About a year and a half after Mika, musical explorer Kalle Hahtamo arrived to band's training facilities. When Kalle played with the guys for the first time, they all knew: "this is it". With Kalle the band rised to a new level with their songs and musicianship.
With this line-up band released their first recording, a live-EP called “Shit Happens! Live at Radiotalorock”. Soon after that Mika parted his ways in good spirit and gave room for new winds to breeze.
NO PAIN, NO GAIN!
In the beginning of the year 2003 Matti Kurppa joined the band to perform the vocal duties. Around the same time band changed their name to Concrete Words wich would better fit their new and solid expression. Band recorded couple of demo’s with the aid of good friends. One of the demo's was released for the public under as such innovative name as “Demo 03”. Despite the name, musical progress within the band and it's material was undeniable.
During the year 2004 Matti Kurppa left the group due the lack of time but luckily Concrete Words found a new vocalist pretty fast: Eero Lihavainen. With Eero band made number of shows at the local venues and recorded one demo-EP called “The Cycle”, which was released around the year 2005.
Then came the army services. It took about couple of years, and still the band rehearsed and did shows when ever possible. In the fall of 2007 Eero left the band and Concrete Words were once again without vocalist. The next singer wasn’t easy to find. Band tried with couple of guys but didn’t find the right man for the big role.
THE PRESENT — NEW MATERIAL, NEW VOCALIST
So the line-up were, at that time, Matti Virtanen on guitar, Kalle Hahtamo on guitar, Pekka Huttunen on drums and Teemu Heurlin on bass. The answer for the vocalist-question was closer than they never dared to think. With a mutual decision, Teemu would take over the vocal duties alongside with the bass. Seemed like the pieces were finally finding their places.
With this line-up Concrete Words recorded EP “Retaliate” – when Teemu was having vocal experience only couple of months! However, “Retaliate” was released in the spring of 2008 and it received a lot of good reviews. After that, a number of shows were played and new material was produced.
In 2009 Concrete Words released "Downfall Race". It showed the fundamental quartet of Concrete Words as it should always been. "Downfall Race" was the bands sharpest and strongest work ever before and proved that anything is possible with this team. "Downfall Race" gained several great reviews and the band got to play some gigs too. "Downfall Race" was chosen as the demo of the month and was also one of the best demos of the year 2009 according to the Finnish metal music site Imperiumi.net.
Fueled by these events, Concrete Words set the bar more higher and began to record a new EP. Song writing for the new EP started almost immediately after the "Downfall Race" were finished. This time around the songs were turning out to be more metal, more melodic, more technical, more brutal, more everything.
When the recording of the new material were about to start, the band thought that this time they should try to get somebody to listen and give opinions on the new songs. Luckily, a good friend of the band, Kalle Aaltonen (Synestesia, Mors Principium Est) promised to fill that spot and co-produced this new EP with Concrete Words. The result is the monster of an EP entitled "In The Wake Of A Blind King", which holds six new songs. As writing this, Concerete Words are about to unleash "In The Wake Of A Blind King" to the world.
Feel the burn!
